Community Project

Dear Resident,

We have met up with some very, very poor families living in our area.

The people we have met up with live at Sundance Village on the R512 Provincial road, Broederstroom (this plot is situated after the T-junction farm stall and just opposite the Sasol garage).

The houses they live in can be described as follows :

  1. Walls : Most units have cemented precast walling
  2. Windows : So small and therefore allows so little light in which makes the houses quite dark even in the middle of the day.
  3. Floors : Bare cement floors, no carpets
  4. Gardens : Non-existent
  5. Bath rooms : Some of the units have their own bathroom, others have an outside bathroom to be shared between two families.

Previously, this is before Amanzingwe Bush Lodge and Pieter Viljoen very kindly supplied food to them every second day, they received some food every Monday from a lady based in Schoemansville running a feeding scheme of food from Sediba Spar, Xanadu Pick n Pay and Rosebank and Village Mall Woolworths which has passed the sell by date. They considered themselves fortunate if they could eat meat (this would only be either mince or boere wors) once a week. Yes this is not a typo error it is once a week. The worst is that of all of the people fed by the feeding scheme based in Schoemansville this group of people is better off than everyone else!! The others in need are based in Scheerpoort, Broederstroom (Roos se Oord) and Brits.

We have compiled a wish list, together with the ladies (which they found very difficult to do) :-

Short term wish list : Plastic containers for keeping the food received from Amanzingwe, washing powder, Stay soft, toilet paper, soap, tooth paste, shavers, dishwashing liquid, Handy Andy, shampoo, conditioner, first aid items, coffee, sugar, long life milk, cereals, porridge, cooking oil, butter, any other groceries, stationery, warm bottles, make up

Medium term wish list : Paint (for inside of houses), cd player, cupboards, kitchen cupboards, bicycles for children, linen, crockery, pots, pans, braais, heater, towels, kettle, rugby equipment for child

Long term wish list :  television, deepfreezer, fridge,  washing machine, vacuum cleaner, oven, double bed mattress, lawn mower, fencing, microwave, any electrical tools, poles and corrugated iron, bed, steam pot, gas bottles, sleeping bags, blankets, any furniture

It is not all gloom and doom as we would like to share with you all of the positive things that have happened since we met up with these ladies :-

  1. Three of the ladies have been for an interview to Amanzingwe Bush Lodge.
  2. One lady has been employed by a local resident as a general office administrator and nanny.
  3. Most of the ladies have been for a much needed haircut
  4. They have been supplied with cooked food on a regular basis by Amanzingwe Bush Lodge, which the ladies have, from their side distributed the surplus to many families based at Roos se Oord .
  5. We are in the process of setting up a little business for the ladies whereby they will be taught various beading techniques. We have four points where their beading products will be sold from, i.e. Anneri (hair salon), a table at Damdoryn fleamarket, a local resident has offered to take these items to her work place and from the ladies directly at Sun Dance Village.

As you can see from the above the people at Sun Dance Village have been extremely fortunate and they are indeed very grateful for this (knowing that this has all happened to them by the grace of God alone), however the need out there is just so great and this is just in our immediate area.

Please if there is anything you feel you could contribute or help with (in any way) please contact either
Tania Fourie (083 415 7512) or Lesley Wiening (082 891 9987) to arrange the necessary.

Thanking you all in advance.

Thank you - Thank you - Thank you

Firstly we would like to thank Amanzingwe Bush Lodge and Pieter Viljoen for the food that is delivered to the underprivileged, the donation of the big plastic containers for transporting the food and for interviewing three of the ladies for a possible career at Amanzingwe. THANK YOU!

Secondly to all of the ladies that have responded to our plea for help. Thank you for your time, food, clothes and most importantly for you compassion. THANK YOU!

Thirdly to our hairdresser Anneri (073 237 0838), who is based at Casa d’Vliet in Scheerpoort, who has offered to cut their hair.

Lastly and most importantly to our dear Heavenly Father who in his wisdom has opened our eyes and heart to see what is happening in our area. THANK YOU!!!
